(7/17/08) Mr. Gore specifically mentioned in his speech the falling prices of wind and solar energy technology, in contrast to the rising prices of oil and coal.President Obama, in numerous speeches, has also strongly advocated that the U.S. develop "green" energy to become independent from fossil fuels. With the cost of oil and gasoline rising out of control within the past four years, before falling back, then rising again - and in light of the 2010 oil rig and coal mine disasters, along with past and recent nuclear power plant accidents (Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, and Fukushima) - it has become evident that there is an increasingly urgent need for the development of alternate sources of energy. Two very promising renewable energy sources are tidal energy and ocean wave energy.
Wind, solar, and hydroelectric energy are also growing, especially on the large scale, but are needed on local scales, along with the exploration for more geothermal energy, as well as further development of biofuels energy.
